Strategic Experience Design & Relational Architecture
FORdesign-forward destinations,
place-based organizations,
and visionary brands
The most compelling places aren’t just defined by what they offer, but how they make people feel.
We uncover what makes a place distinct, from its cultural context to the relationships within it, then translate those insights into experiences, rituals, and touchpoints that feel deeply considered and impossible to replicate.
Emergence
Strategic Experience Design & Relational Architecture
Emergence is a strategic advisory framework for hospitality spaces, urban placemakers, and visionary brands looking to measure a completely new metric of success – emotional resonance and the capacity for belonging.
We closely study and sense a space’s undercurrents, noticing the invisible dynamics where care and impact stall. From there, we design guest touchpoints that drive deep emotional brand loyalty and connection to place. We do this through drawing upon lineages and assets that are site-specific – local ecologies, heritage, stories, and genuine community relationships – creating experiences that are impossible to replicate.
Most strategists help clients improve what’s already obvious. Our work starts by noticing the needs, gaps, and cultural threads that exist but are rarely perceived, then designing ways for people to experience them.
We’re obsessed with building worlds that feel as good as they look, where delight, thoughtful consideration, and a felt sense of care underpin every touchpoint.

You might be:
A design-forward hotel, boutique resort, or hospitality group looking to create signature guest rituals and sensory touchpoints that move beyond amenities and programming into a deeper model of experiential hospitality - and a new kind of luxury
An urban placemaker, developer, or destination looking to translate a distinctive regional identity into an experiential layer that feels native to the place, not packaged for visitors
A visionary brand with a strong cult following looking to bring its influence into the physical world, creating experiences that deepen belonging and build lasting cultural legacy
A cultural or heritage institution looking to transform history, art, and place into fresh, tactile experiences that invite visitors to engage with the past in new, sensorial ways

Organizations partner with Forage and Sustain at inflection points, when industry “differentiators” stop feeling…different, and are reproduced at speed. We step in when you’re ready to build what’s next.
Scenario 01: The Luxury Hotel & Emotional Design
The Tension: Your design-forward hotel offers yoga, garden-to-glass cocktails, and zero-waste initiatives, yet guests still check out without a felt sense of the land, leaving you reliant on generic luxury benchmarks.
The Strategy: We move beyond passive amenities to architect guest rituals, arrival sequences, and site-specific narratives that anchor your property deeply into its regional identity, turning a beautiful stay into an irreplaceable emotional memory.
Scenario 02: The Cultural Institution & Emerging Desires
The Tension: Your heritage institution curates modern exhibits that spark conversations and cultural commentary, yet they remain fixed in passive viewing culture that does little to awaken the senses.
The Strategy: We create immersive experiences where culture lovers can participate in sensory, artistic expression, inspiring repeat visits and an embodied sense of wellbeing and joy.
We integrate cultural memory with contemporary design, weaving land, narrative, and innovation into cohesive systems of engagement. The result is not just experiential programming, but a way of making invisible value visible. We identify and cultivate the intangible metrics - connection, resonance, belonging, curiosity, delight - that conventional reporting overlooks, yet are the very measures that influence how people experience, remember, and relate to a place.
-
Our work moves from immersion to integration – beginning with a close read of your place, your people, and the gaps that are unseen but felt. From there, we translate what we uncover into a clear experiential direction and blueprint for what comes next.
Phase 1
Cultural Insight & Landscape AnalysisThis phase asks: “what is already here, what is shaping the way this place is experienced, and what are we not seeing yet?”
Through conversations, research, observation, and touchpoint analysis, we look at how your place is currently being experienced - from the perspective of guests, visitors and internal teams, as well as the people who shape and live alongside it. We also look outward, identifying the cultural shifts and emerging needs influencing how people want to feel, and how those emotions inspire desired experiences.
We uncover:
The cultural and relational dynamics shaping how your place is experienced
What is resonating, and where opportunities for deeper connection and care are being missed
The emerging needs, emotions, and behaviours of your audience
Overlooked assets, stories, relationships, and possibilities within the place
This phase results in a clear picture of what makes your place distinctive and where the greatest opportunities lie.
Phase 2
Relational Architecture & Experiential DesignThis phase asks: “how can the opportunities we’ve uncovered become delightful experiences?”
Here, we turn insight into opportunity, developing the concepts, experiences, and relational architecture that can give your place a more distinctive identity and deeper connection with the people who experience it.
We develop:
2-4 signature experience concepts guided by the insights from Phase 1
A relational outline showing how people, place, culture, and experiences connect
A practical implementation roadmap outlining sequencing, and the partners or capabilities needed to bring the concepts to life
The result is an experiential blueprint that gives your team a clear vision for what could be created, and a practical roadmap for bringing it to life in ways that feel relevant and characteristic of your place.
Please Note: Forage and Sustain leads the strategic and creative direction of the work, from cultural insight and ideation through to experiential concepts and implementation sequencing. Like an architect, we develop the blueprint; your internal team and creative/operational partners carry the vision into build-out and execution.

Art, beauty, and storytelling are essential to the human experience, evoking emotion and connection on a somatic level, far beyond what trends or amenities can achieve. Knowing this, our work answers the question those of us operating at the intersection of the future and the felt are asking – how do we design for a sense of true belonging in physical environments?
Most organizations measure satisfaction. What if they measured belonging?
Satisfaction tells you whether you met expectations. Belonging reveals whether you created something beyond them – a feeling guests may never have thought to expect, yet one that can be pivotal to how they experience and remember a place. We believe that integrity, relationality, and care, are not abstract ideals, they are design principles. In a culture shaped by speed and sameness, nuance and delight become acts of leadership. Rather than chasing frictionless, placeless growth, we focus on experiences that honour layered emotions, individual needs, joy, land, and culture, while remaining adaptive and forward-facing. This is why relational design works. It aligns story, structure, and sensory experience, so that participation feels genuine, not manufactured.
We’re here to shift your gaze away from hydroponic futures that promise results but that have no roots, and instead, guide you towards ancestrally emergent realities that are radical in their simplicity.
